The Eco Red Foundation for the Sustainable Development in collaboration with Organización Nacional de Calidad Ambiental (ONCA) and The Travel Foundation, present the “Best Environmental Practices in Golf Courses of the Mexican Caribbean” project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists in the creation, diffusion and application of “Best Environmental Practices” (BEP) during the construction, operation and the maintenance of 17 Golf courses in the Cancún, Riviera Maya, Yucatan and Campeche areas in Mexico. These BEP’s are focused on the environmental improvement of the course and its surroundings, generating reductions in the use of natural resources, and creating a new environmentally-friendly Golf culture. The participating courses adopt these practices to establish operation procedures within their facilities to protect the regional ecosystems, apply technology which reduces and ensures the rational use of the resources, and establish more efficient mechanisms in the operation and/or construction of the golf course. One of the project’s main objectives is to position the Cancun - Yucatan - Campeche region as an Ecological Golf Destination which can be replicated in other regions of the country and the world. It is through innovative projects like this that we will generate responsible tourism to move closer to guaranteeing sustainable developments that contribute to the improvement of the global environment.
